DAY 1: Moshi/Arusha Town - Tarangire National Park
After a short briefing in the morning, you will be taken to the Tarangire National Park. The park with its endless tree savannah including the impressive baobab trees and seasonal marshes, is also home to the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania. In addition to elephants you are also likely to spot giraffes, buffaloes, lions, zebras, gnus and other types of antelopes and gazelles. Upon arrival at the park, your guide will open the roof of the vehicle and the extensive wildlife viewing will begin. Lunch will be taken at a picnic spot and in the afternoon you will get to see more of this amazing and beautiful park.
DAY 2: Karatu Area – Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, we will start our drive past the unique and gorgeous Ngorongoro Conservation Area via the famous Oldupai Gorge also known as “The Cradle of Mankind” to the Serengeti National Park. The gorge lies on the same spot where once lay an ancient lake, which was covered by thick layers of volcanic ash, which carefully preserved the world’s earliest records of mankind. This extremely important prehistoric site was discovered by Louis and Mary Leakey and the exhibitions from different periods in its history are on display in the Oldupai Gorge Museum, located on the gorge’s rim.
Our visit will also include the famous Maasai bomas, where you will be able to meet the Maasai people and get to know their culture and habits. Upon entering the Serengeti National Park for your game drive, the most intriguing and yet amazing African landscape rolls before your eyes. Here you will experience African wildlife in all its glory.
DAY 3 & 4: Full Day Game Drive Serengeti National Park
For two days straight at around 06.00h we will start the sunrise game drive. You will be accompanied by the melodic singing of the birds while searching for leopards and lions hunting for their morning meal and contrastingly calm hippos, returning to their watery homes with their family. We will return to the campsite or lodge, where we will enjoy a late breakfast at 9:00. We will continue our game drive at 10.30 and stay in the wilderness for the rest of the day. Our safari drive will continue according according to the time of year and we will follow the animals on their trail.
DAY 5: Serengeti National Park – Karatu Area
On your outward journey to the park gate, you will enjoy some more game viewing before you leave the Serengeti National Park in the early afternoon to continue your journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As soon as you reach the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, you will see the giant caldera below – a breathtaking view. You will leave the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and drive to Karatu in the Ngorongoro highlands.
DAY 6: Ngorongoro crater – Lake Eyasi :
After breakfast, we will proceed to Ngorongoro crater for a full-day game drive, the crater is one of the 8th natural wonders of the world. From the comfort of your open-top vehicle, descending down into the crater, you will enjoy amazing panoramic view and if you are lucky, you will see the Big five.
The caldera exhibits more than 120 species of mammals. We will also visit saline lakes such as Lake Magadi, which is a magnet for flamingos and other water birds. We will also see pools full of hippos, the endangered East African black rhino as well as birds such as the secretary bird, the white stork arriving from Europe during the wet season and kori bustards, crowned cranes and ostriches. It is for sure a landscape of sheer beauty.
Another big drawing card to this picturesque park is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which can require the trained eye of your guide to spot.
DAY 7: Lake Eyasi Hunting With The Hadza Nomads
We will start our day before breakfast and visit the village, where we will find – the Hadzabe tribe. The local hunters will prepare a performance of hunting techniques just for us. They are not merely a stylish display, but reveal their everyday life when they hunt for animals to feed their families. You will be asked to watch quietly and be as motionless as possible, as they will show how they attract animals with distinct motions, sometimes with the help of animal body parts, such as antelope horns and then poison them with home made products. The Hadzabe are endangered with an only about 2,000 Bushmen and women left and are the only tribe that has stayed true to nature.
We will return to the lodge to eat our late breakfast and then head with picnic lunches to Lake Eyasi.
Lake Eyasi is a shallow soda lake and in the dry season the lake sometimes disappears completely. When the water level is fairly high, it is an important water source for many animals and a seasonal stop for some of the most beautiful bird species, including two species of flamingoes. Large flocks of these colorful birds come to the lake’s shore every year, because it ensures a healthy and safe breeding ground. During the periods of high water levels, the lake’s borders are flooded and attract other animals, such as hippos.
We will take time to meet the Datoga people, who are mostly farmers and cattle breeders.
DAY 8: Lake Manyara National Park - Arusha/Moshi
Depart after breakfast to Lake Manyara National Park for game viewing and picnic lunch. We will drive for about two hours, passing through the agricultural and fresh produce market town of Mto Wa Mbu, situated next to the entrance of the Lake Manyara National Park. The town is a souvenir hunters paradise.
We will enter Lake Manyara National Park, a photographer’s paradise for game viewing. Expect to see a park teeming with wildlife including the famous tree climbing lions resting in acacia trees. From your vehicles, you will have a marvelous view of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, sparkling in the sun. After more wildlife spotting, you’ll say goodbye to the Lake and drive through Maasai bomas, baobab forest and rolling savannah plains en route to Arusha/Moshi town, where your safari adventure will end. If you’re too stunned by the beauty of what you have witnessed to move, we’ll be happy to take you to the airport or Arusha.
